One of my computers was on the edge of the routers wireless range, causing connection dropping and slow
speeds, so got myself some ethernet over powerline adapters that make use of the electrical wiring.

They have proven fast and very reliable, so purchased two more which are a newer model. I was unable
to find information comparing the two models, so decided to put up this page.

On the left is the Belkin F5D4072 and the right the Belkin F5D4074 both rated at 200mbps. They are also
listed as F5D4072UK and F5D4074UK to show they come with a UK plug, and F5D4074UKS for a single adaptor.

Here are the noticable changes in the new version:

  - The design is more stylish, curvy, and slightly wider.

  - The blue lights are now dim and no longer annoying ( I had to cover up the other ones )

  - The plug orientation has been flipped, the old model sticks up and blocks the top socket of an
square adaptor from being used, the new model points downwards, which I found better but would be
a problem for sockets that are mounted very close to the floor.

  - While the depth of the main adaptor has increased, the plug section no longer has a fuse and is
a lot thinner, so the unit as a whole sticks out less from the wall, as shown in the next photo.

These changes are all good improvements over the older brick model, although personally im not
a fan of glossy black on any electronics, it just ends up reflecting unwanted light and shows
off smudges and scratches, but as the adaptors are likely to be out of view, it is not a problem.

If your wondering what made me choose Belkin over other brands, I had some Argos vouchers and
that is what they had in stock. Afterwards I learnt that there are competing standards, with
Belkin using the 'Homeplug Powerline Alliance' standard, so in theory I could mix brands that
also support that standard and speed.
