Guest Im using your forum news hack and it works charm. I wanted to ask, could you make it to have news forum categories?
That would be great.
Also protect the setting page with a pass and captcha for security reasons.

Thanks in advance!

Where would it get the category information from, as in how could it tell that one thread is 'sports' and the other is 'games' etc ?

No need to worry about the settings, you can only access that page if you a site admin.

Guest I found a bug:
If you post an attachment (any other than images) the URL of the attachment in forum_news.php is wrong.
Could you fix it?

I must admit I never tested file attachment when I made it, in what seems like a long time ago, im surprised its still working with all the changes in e107 going on

Ive put up a beta here:

[ link removed ]

This should fix any relative links to the forum, such as the ones used by the File Attachment.

I tried a resized image and centering an image, and it worked ok for me.

Could you give me some more details, or post the exact same thing here so that I can edit your post and try it out ( a screenshot of the problem would also be helpful )

It looks like from screenshot 8 that that you have put in a number for the setting "NUMBER OF CHARACTERS BEFORE NEWS IS SHORTENED" and whats happening is the links are being chopped short.

Make the setting 0 and it should sort the problem.

Guest ok,that was it!could you do that:
Have attachment, in "Read more" link? and of course make it an admin checkbox for people to choose how to use it.
Thanks!

Hmmm, think you need to explain that in a bit more detail, or better yet post an image mock up.

Did you want just the icon, or both the icon and the text ?

For more than one attachment, did you want it side by side, or each one on a seperate line ?

Guest What i mean in more detail:
When I upload an attachment, contain all uploaded attachments in the "read more"(full topic)links.
Now, regarding the way they are showed,i think that is of the forum templates stuff,so theres no need it to be done via the plugin.

Another thing,is if posible,to have BOTH forums news and normal news. Can this be done?
Also last important thing, get nes from multiple categories(this could be doen with checkboxes,instead of a drop down list).

What i have in mind:Post one one column the users contributions and on the other my sites updates.

Still dont understand about the upload attachments.

Do you mean remove attachments from the forum_news if there is a read more link, so they are only shown in the forum ?

To show both news would require a lot more code, something I do not have the free time to do.

Guest I got a better idea about the combination of normal news and forum news.
This is the code of a news_template.php to have 2 new columns:
$NEWSCOLUMNS = 2;

$NEWSCLAYOUT = "
<table style='width: 100%;'>
<tr>
<td style='width: 49%; vertical-align: top;'>{ITEMS1}</td>
<td style='width: 2%;'></td>
<td style='width: 49%; vertical-align: top;'>{ITEMS2}</td>
</tr>
</table>
";

Wouldnt it be easier to make a shortcode for the forum_news and put it where the ITEMS2 is?

ust a though.

Guest Hey man could you do this:
Be able to select multiple categories to pull news from?
You could use either checkboxes,or a list.
Thats would be the greatest addition of all.

The thing is its the news.php or the forum_news.php that reads in the news_template, thats why its not a simple template change to merge both.

Categories from where and pull news from where, this is meant as a simple means of using a forum section to show news.

Guest Well regarding my last suggestion the whole idea is that user-made posts make it to the frontpage as well. Ruch i'd like to ask a question:Do you do custom plugins?I need this mod for forum news,but most importanly i need another "forum ads" plugin. I will pay of course.
